Testimonials

“I can't recommend highly enough Historic Texas Tours. I take tours in every city I travel to, and HTT was first-class. Shelley was very knowledgable and interested in the people on her tour. I liked that she went the extra mile by having free bottled water on her tour...something the big name companies do not do. Those little things make for a nice experience. I did 2 tours with Shelley, the Missions Tour and the Foodie Tour. Of course they were quite different, but both excellent. The MISSIONS TOUR was the most interesting thing I did in San Antonio. While the FOODIE TOUR was just fun and delicious! And, I was definitely full at the end! My only regret was that I did not do the FOODIE TOUR earlier in the week so I had more time to go back to the wonderful restaurants. So thanks to Shelley and to the restaurant personnel who treated us so wonderfully!”

The “Flavors of San Antonio”
Foodie Tour is Epicurean Delight!

San Antonio, June 1, 2009 - Shelly Reynolds, proprietor of Historic Texas Tours, has created The Flavors of San Antonio foodie tour – uniquely personalized and amply garnished with genuine Texas hospitality.

Historic Texas Tours has been pleasing clients since June 2008 by providing exceptional tours including: Cowboy for the Day; San Antonio City Tours; The Mission Trail Tour, which is a half day, fully guided tour of Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada, The Espada Aqueduct and Mission Concepcion in the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park; Texas Hill Country Tour; Texas Winery Tours; Natural Bridge Caverns & Wild Life Park Tour; plus the Texas Rodeo Package Tour every Saturday night. Any tour can be customized.

The Flavors of San Antonio foodie tour is a new professionally guided 2 1/2 hour epicurean luncheaon delight into the "inner circle' of a unique group of San Antonio's best eateries, unknown to some locals and most tourists.  The cost, including specially prepared samples at each stop, is only $35 per person. As always, a five-dollar discount for locals, seniors (55+) and military/veterans is available. The Flavors of San Antonio foodie tour is offered daily from 1:00pm to 3:30pm, Monday through Thursday. No one leaves hungry.

As a native San Antonian with family ties to the Texas Revolution and former culinary experience from the Joan Woods Cooking School, Shelly has an extraordinary insight of extremely tasty establishments off the beaten path.

Unique to San Antonio, currently The Flavors of San Antonio foodie tour includes edible samplings, created exclusively for Foodie Tour guests, from these six mouth-watering stops – Luther’s Café, The Cove, Augie’s Barbed Wire Smokehouse, Joseph’s Storehouse Bakery & Café, and finally Justin’s on Main. Additional savory venues and tour times are being considered.

Luther's Café has been palate pleasing San Antonio since 1949!  They specialize in burgers and bowls of “Red Top” (renowned Irish stew covered with their famous chili).

The Cove was featured on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives on The Food Network.  This very eclectic eatery serves organic, locally grown food, fish tacos, and is a car wash and Laundromat.  The place is fantastic!
Next, we stop at Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse.  Augie custom smokes all of his meat on-site.  The brisket is smoked for 26 hours and melts in your mouth!  Top it with some of Augie's "secret recipe" b-b-q sauce to find a little bit of Texas heaven.

We also visit Joseph’s Storehouse Bakery & Café. Everything is made fresh daily from scratch and the café doubles as a Church on Sunday, with the owner doing the preaching!  They are known for their home-cooked lunches, which include King Ranch Chicken, Meatloaf, and Chicken Potpie as well as an endless assortment of baked goods.

Our last stop is for ice cream.  Justin's on Main is one of the only places in town to get hand-made ice cream, gelatos, and sorbets.  Justin also provides lunch items.  Justin has been making ice cream and gelatos in San Antonio since 1968!
